The Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 is without a doubt one of the most popular import cars of all time. Unfortunately for American car enthusiasts, the R34 has been a forbidden fruit, a car not legal for import until 2024. Now that hasn’t stopped many sketchy importers, such as Kaizo or the infamous Motorex. Both, it should be known, were shuttered under federal import charges. Fortunately, for one model of R34, there is a legal way. Thanks to the Show and Display Law, certain models of the R34 GT-R can be imported, and here is one such car.
Produced in 1999 as a highly-limited special edition car, the Nissan GT-R V-Spec Midnight Purple II was a sight to behold. A blend of blues, greens, and reds shifted over the metallic purple base coat, showing a different color depending on the lighting. Only 300 of these exclusive cars were ever built, and fewer than that are still on the roads today. This car is one such example.
This specific R34 has been tastefully modified since new, and currently has 76k miles according to the seller. The modifications include a Tomei stroker kit to 2.8L, a fully-built block and head, and an upgraded turbo. Accompanying mods like injectors, exhaust, and ECU tuning have all been completed, as well. The exterior remains mostly stock, only changes being aftermarket Work wheels and added fog lamps.
Now although this car has been approved for import under Show and Display, it is still not EPA compliant. Work will need to be completed with a registered importer for full import legality. Buyers can also opt to wait until 2022 to import the vehicle, at which time the EPA requirements are waived.
